Pakistan Opens New Iran Trade Route Amid Improving Regional Relations
The first official consignment under the arrangement—consisting of frozen meat—was dispatched to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Friday, marking the formal start of the Pakistan-Iran Transit Corridor.
As part of this framework, goods originating from Pakistan are set to pass through Gwadar port, which is connected to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), then move through Iranian territory before reaching markets in Central Asia.
According to analysts, the development appears closely tied to strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries. One regional expert suggested that recent geopolitical developments and diplomatic coordination have contributed to reducing tensions between Islamabad and Tehran.
He stated: "This (corridor) seems to be interlinked with growing bilateral relations between Islamabad and Tehran,"
He also noted that Pakistan’s engagement in international diplomatic platforms, including the United Nations Security Council, has played a role in easing friction between the sides.
The expert further added: "Pakistan's mediatory efforts to end the Middle East conflict have further brought the two sides closer,"
In parallel, Pakistan has reportedly adjusted its export regulations, now permitting shipments of essential goods such as food supplies, pharmaceuticals, and temporary shelters to transit through Iran toward Central Asian destinations via the new corridor.
The development comes shortly after Pakistan, alongside several regional powers including Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, helped facilitate a temporary ceasefire agreement between Washington and Iran. This followed weeks of escalating hostilities after military strikes involving the United States and Israel earlier in the year.
